Q: How to replace the TPMS Sensor on 2006 Cadillac DTS?
A: The Tire Pressure Sensor replacement process begins with a suitable vehicle support while removing the tire/wheel assembly from the vehicle. Placing both sensor components on a clean surface prior to removing the tire from the wheel is essential for protection against corrosion. These components must be aluminum capping and nickel-plated valves. Before prying the tire bead from the wheel, keep the bead breaking fixture 90 degrees from the valve stem and gently insert the tire iron or pry bar clockwise ahead of the sensor body to pry the tire bead over the mounting/dismounting head. Run the wheel assembly on the tire machine while rotating it clockwise to move the tire bead towards the wheel rim exterior then do the same procedure for the inner bead prior to tire removal. Purge tire sealant from entire wheel-tire interface then extract the tire pressure sensor nut along with its sensor. Clean the grommet sealing area of dirt before putting the sensor into the wheel hole with the air flow facing away from the wheel. Install the sensor nut at 7 Nm torque (62 inch lbs.) while aligning the sensor body parallel to the inside wheel and tightening it into place. Proper tire reinstallation requires users to position the mounting/dismounting head 180 degrees from the valve stem and the bead transition area 45 degrees counterclockwise of the valve stem until the tire bead is successfully transferred to the wheel rim's inside surface before repeating the procedure for installing the tire on the wheel. When purchasing a service replacement tire pressure sensor it is delivered in the OFF operating mode but it needs to be driven at speeds higher than 32 km/h (20 mph) for at least 10 seconds to activate the sensor's roll switch closure. To complete the procedure you must first mount the new wheels and tires onto the vehicle before letting the vehicle settle to ground level to begin learning the sensors' tire pressure data.
