2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Position the master cylinder mounting flange in a bench vise so you can access the rear of the primary Piston. Install fittings on the master cylinder ports that match necessary flare seat types and refer hose ends to the ports. Connect clear hoses to these port fittings and put them into the master cylinder tank but maintain the manual transmission vehicle's clutch port plugged or capped for bleeding purposes. Pump brake fluid from a sealed container at least halfway up the reservoir using delco supreme ii brake fluid gm p/n 12377967 or an equivalent dot-3 product (Canadian P/N 992667). Maintain the hose ends completely submerged in the fluid during fluiding. With a rounded tool push and release the primary Piston into the bore 25mm (1 inch) several times while looking for clear fluid from the ports. Air removal will make pressure rise and travel reduce. Rephrase this process until you see normal fluid exit from the ports without bubble appearance. Reassemble the reservoir cap and diaphragm while you put back the master cylinder ports into their hoses. Ultimately unclamp the master cylinder with a cloth beneath for spill protection before taking it off the vise.
