2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the wheel cylinder on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Before starting replacement work lift and stabilize the vehicle under the designated area. Disassemble the tire wheel assembly first then take apart the Brake Drum. Clear out the area around the Wheel Cylinder before taking off its bleeder cap and valve. Separate the brake pipe connector from the Wheel Cylinder while using caps to protect the brake pipe openings. Disengage the Wheel Cylinder fasteners. Insert the j 38400 Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover to separate the top of brake shoes after which you can remove the Wheel Cylinder from the Brake Backing Plate. With j 38400 tool position the brake shoes top and fasten new Wheel Cylinder into Brake Backing Plate. Torque Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts to 16 nm when securing them. Push the brake pipe cap off and attach the brake pipe fitting to the Wheel Cylinder before tightening it to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.). Fix the Wheel Cylinder bleeder valve with 8 nm (71 inch lbs.) force. After placing the Brake Drum in position you need to bleed the hydraulic brakes, fit the bleeder valve cap, change drum brake settings, and put on the tire and wheel set before lowering the vehicle.
