    Q:
How to replace the wheel cylinder on Chevrolet Cobalt? Posted by Customer
    A:
In replacing the Wheel Cylinder, first, lift and support the vehicle, then remove the tire and the wheel assembly and then the Brake Drum. Debris and contaminants surrounding the Wheel Cylinder should be removed prior to removing the Wheel Cylinder bleeder cap and valve and brake pipe fitting from the said element, exposing brake pipe end and capping the said end to prevent brake pipe loss and contamination. Next, take off the Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts and using the j 38400 Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400), open the top of brake shoes wide enough so as to take off the Wheel Cylinder from the Brake Backing Plate. For installation, use once more the j 38400 to spread the top of the brake shoes apart and place the new Wheel Cylinder into the Brake Backing Plate, and then install the Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts and tighten them to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). On the opposite end of the brake pipe, remove the cap and join the brake pipe fitting at the Wheel Cylinder and screw it full to a torque rating of 19 nm (14 ft. Lb.). Mount the Wheel Cylinder bleeder valve by tightening it to a set of 8 nm (71 inch lbs.), mounting the Brake Drum, bleeding out the hydraulic brake system, and mounting the cap for the bleeder valve. Finally, adjust the drum brakes, mount the tire and wheel assembly, and drop the vehicles.

    Q:
How to replace the wheel cylinder on Chevrolet HHR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the Wheel Cylinder replacement process by raising and supporting your vehicle. Start by extracting the tire with attached wheel followed by the Brake Drum's removal. First clean debris from around the Wheel Cylinder before removing the bleeder cap and valve to disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the Wheel Cylinder. You must cap the exposed brake pipe end to stop fluid loss and protect the brake cylinder from contaminants. Start by removing all mounting bolts which secure the Wheel Cylinder to its position. First use the j 38400 Brake Shoe spanner and spring remover (J 38400) to open the brake shoes at their top ends before extracting the Wheel Cylinder from the Brake Backing Plate. Use the j 38400 tool (J 38400) to open brake shoes at their top while installing the new Wheel Cylinder onto the Brake Backing Plate. Secure the Wheel Cylinder mounting bolts with torque to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Place the brake pipe end cap aside before fitting the brake pipe connection at the Wheel Cylinder and torquing it to 21 n.m (15 lb ft). Tighten the Wheel Cylinder bleeder valve to 8 n.m (71 lb in) torque. The installation process involves first fitting the Brake Drum followed by bleeding the hydraulic brake system while finishing with bleeder valve cap installation. To finish up follow these steps: adjust the drum brakes and install the tire/wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
