2006 Chevrolet Colorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on 2006 Chevrolet Colorado?
A: Before servicing the brake caliper you need to drain all brake fluid out of the caliper unit. Never put your fingers before a Piston during compressed air use because the outcome can harm you severely. During brake caliper removal you may experience damage to the Piston which needs replacement by a new one. Hang the brake caliper in a safe device then wedge in a timber part before placing a shop towel over it. Compressed filtered air without lubricate helps you take out the brake caliper pistons. Position the taken Piston back into the caliper. Then use a small wood block and a c-clamp with compressed air to force the Piston halfway inside. Place another block of wood ahead of the final Piston and repeat the air application. Push out three pistons from each caliper barrel and afterward two Piston seals without using metal tools. Disconnect the bleeder valve components from the caliper housing and cleanse them all with denatured alcohol before drying them under compressed air filtration. Replace smooth caliper bores either with new pistons or a new caliper before installing unharmed boots back into place. Discard brake caliper debris by cleaning the parts with denatured alcohol before air drying them using compressed lubricated air. Apply brake fluid sparingly onto the Piston dust seal as you place the Piston seal and strut spring using the boot seal installer (J 45863). Put the Piston in place only when it stands flat and straight. Press down the Piston using wood as a buffer and then take away the wooden tool when installation is complete. At last install the Piston dust seal using a driver handle and boot seal installer. Install the bleeder valve and tighten it to 19 nm (14 ft. Lbs.) before covering it with its cap.
