Place the tool j 8614-01 flange and pulley holding tool under the flange to loosen the yoke flange nut. First remove the yoke flange nut followed by the o-ring seal and front output yoke flange from the assembly yet discard both the nut and o-ring seal. A flat-bladed screwdriver should be used gently to lift the front output shaft seal from the transfer case by tapping its edges. A front output shaft seal installer (J 37212) with a hammer tool enables you to properly install the new front output shaft seal into the transfer case. Before installation of the front output shaft yoke flange install a new yoke flange o-ring seal which must be lightly lubricated with transfer case fluid. Then install this and a new yoke flange nut. Apply the flange and pulley holding tool (J 8614-01) onto the yoke flange before you tighten the yoke flange nut to 137 nm (101 ft. Lbs.). The front propeller shaft must be reinstalled after staking the yoke flange nut in two places with a suitable punch. Subsequently the transfer case must be filled with fluid.
