    Q:
How to replace the rear output transfer case seal on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the repair of the rear output shaft seal by taking away the rear propeller shaft first. Great care needs to be taken during the Transfer Case seal removal process. A flat-bladed screwdriver and a hammer should be used to extract the rear output shaft seal from the Transfer Case. The Transfer Case installation of the new rear output shaft seal requires use of j 35582 (Oil Pump Seal Installer) combined with a hammer to insert the seal correctly. The rear propeller shaft needs to be put back in place before checking that the Transfer Case fluid measures correctly.

    Q:
How to replace the input shaft transfer case seal on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the input shaft seal requires complete removal of the Transfer Case assembly. The assembly fixture (J 45759) requires installation onto the Transfer Case through four appropriate bolts. Secure the input component within the holding fixture (J 3289-20) by integrating the assembly fixture (J 45759) into the holding fixture workbench using the pivot pin. There exists no protective shoulder for the seal inside the Transfer Case so employ the seal remover tool (J 45278) to pull out the seal properly. The input shaft seal removal from the Transfer Case requires the slide hammer with bearing adapter (J 23907) together with the seal remover (J 45278) according to service procedure. The input seal installer (J 45934) with a hammer assists installation of the new input shaft seal inside the Transfer Case until reaching its accurate depth positioning. Curve the assembly fixture (J 45759) from the Transfer Case before reinstalling the complete Transfer Case assembly.

    Q:
How to replace the front output transfer case seal on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
You must drain the transfer case fluid before starting the replacement of the front output shaft seal. Bend the staked regions on the yoke flange nut out completely before removing the front propeller shaft. A suitable punch bends the stakes out on the yoke flange nut before you use the flange and pulley holding tool (J 8614-01) to support the flange while you loosen the yoke flange nut. Start by removing the yoke flange nut, subsequent o-ring seal and front output yoke flange structure while discarding both components. A flat-bladed screwdriver should be used to slightly tap the edge of the front output shaft seal until it detaches from the transfer case. The front output shaft seal installer (J 37212) combined with a hammer enables correct installation of the new front output shaft seal within the transfer case. Start by placing the front output shaft under the yoke flange. Next, apply transfer case fluid to the new yoke flange o-ring seal followed by both components installation with the new nut. Use the flange and pulley holding tool (J 8614-01) to secure the yoke flange before torquing the yoke flange nut to 137 n.m (101 lb ft). You should stake the yoke flange nut through two points using a suitable punch for the installation of the front propeller shaft. Fill transfer case fluid as the next step before ending the process.
