  A: The first step when replacing the front output shaft seal requires fluid drainage from the transfer case. Bend out the staked areas on the yoke flange nut so removing the front propeller shaft becomes simpler. Support the flange with (J 8614-01) while using a suitable punch to bend out the stakes from the yoke flange nut before loosening it. The repair procedure starts with discarding the yoke flange nut and o-ring seal before removing the front output yoke flange. A flat-bladed screwdriver should gently hit the edges of the front output shaft seal to detach it from the transfer case. Insert the (J 37212) alongside a hammer to set the new front output shaft seal correctly in the transfer case. Place the front output shaft yoke flange into position before lightly applying transfer case fluid on the yoke flange o-ring seal and setting it correctly. The replacement yoke flange requires installation of a newly provided nut before connecting the flange to the yoke while torquing the nut to 137 nm (101 lb ft) with the tool (J 8614-01). Apply the suitable punch twice to stake the yoke flange nut while you reinstall the front propeller shaft before filling the transfer case with fluid.
