• Q: How to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2006 Chevrolet HHR?

  A: Service the Valve Stem Oil Seal as well as install new Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring after you take out the Camshaft and Camshaft roller followers. Put the valve spring compressor (J 43649) on the cylinder head first then take out all spark plugs. Insert the Air Hose adapter into the Spark Plug hole and join an Air Hose to it. Inflate the cylinder to 690 kpa of pressure through compressed air. Push down the valve spring using a spring compressor tool (J 43649) before taking off the valve spring keepers, valve spring retainer, and valve spring. Install the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover tool j 36017 to uninstall the valve seal. To properly install the new valve seal use the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover (J 36017) by setting it against the valve guide surface totally. After compressing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor (J 43649), replace the valve spring keepers while the compressor remains engaged before putting back the valve spring retainer and valve spring. Take off the valve spring compressor piece (J 43649) by detaching the Air Hose adapter from the Spark Plug hole. Place the spark plugs and put back the Camshaft roller followers plus Camshaft.
