2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: To remove the Oil Pan, one should remove the engine frame and drain off engine oil, as well as remove engine Oil Filter. Re-install the Drain Plug and Oil Filter just tight and remove the transaxle converter cover bolt/stud and cover. Pull off the oil level sensor electric connector as well as the engine harness retainer in the front of the Oil Pan, and disengage the Oil Pan bolts before taking off the Oil Pan. Capping or covering the openings to prevent foreign material from entering into oil passages of the Oil Pan. Remove gasket-retaining rivets if needed, and dispose of gasket and rivets. Clean and check the engine Oil Pan. A critical point is the alignment of the Oil Pan structure. The rear bolt hole locations are where the transmission mounting will be attached, so align the rear block, with the rear Oil Pan. The part of the Oil Pan rear end cannot extend behind the engine block and the transmission housing face. Do not reuse Oil Pan Gasket and rivet the new gasket onto Oil Pan. Apply a 5mm (0.20-inch) long bead of sealant gm p/n 12346141 or 12378577 (Canadian P/N 89022195), or the equivalent, 20mm (0.80-inch) long sealant directly on the front/rear cover gasket which protrude to the Oil Pan surface on the engine block. Align the oil gallery passages of the Oil Pan and the engines block with the Oil Pan Gasket and then pre-assemble the Oil Pan Gasket with the pan. Put the gasket on the pan, then the Oil Pan bolts go through the gasket. Replace the Oil Pan, gasket, and bolts to the engine block; tighten the Oil Pan and Oil Pan-to-front cover bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), Oil Pan-to-rear cover to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.), and transmission housing, converter cover, and transmission bolts/stud to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the engine harness to the front of the Oil Pan, connect the oil level sensor electrical connector, and install the transaxle converter bregade cover, bolt / stud, tighten the bolt / stud to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Finally, replace the engine oil and Oil Filter and then hook up the engine frame.
