    Q:
How to replace the oil pan on Buick Terraza? Posted by Customer
    A:
Replacement of an Oil Pan begins with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable before installing the engine support fixture. After vehicle support lift the vehicle and empty the crankcase fluid. Insert the following sequence of steps to begin pan replacement: remove the right front tire and wheel after you perform splash shield removal on that same side. Begin by disconnecting the wheel speed sensor harness at the right suspension support. Then disconnect the right front Ball Joint, bolt, and nut to split the Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle. Start by removing the lower closeout panel along with A/C Compressor bolts before setting the compressor to the side. To proceed begin by removing braces that support the engine toward the transmission and Starter then disconnect the oil level sensor. First disconnect the retainers that secure the Brake Line to the frame and remove right Engine Mount nuts and bolts. Afterward loosen left cradle bolts and take out frame bolts from the right front and rear locations. First remove the Oil Pan side bolts and Oil Pan bolts then remove the Oil Pan alongside its gasket. Clean all flange surfaces on the Oil Pan as well as the Oil Pan rail and front cover and rear main bearing cap and threaded holes. The installation requires placing a new gasket with gm p/n 1052080 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent sealant on the Oil Pan gasket tabs when installing the rear main bearing cap. Fasten the Oil Pan bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) while the Oil Pan side bolts require 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Start by replacing the Starter then install the flywheel inspection cover and A/C Compressor onto the engine. Begin installing frame bolts on the right side while adding Engine Mount bolts and nuts and Steering Knuckle Ball Joint on to the right side. Install the right front antilock brake system (ABS) wheel speed sensor harness then install retainers for the Brake Line and engine-to-transmission braces. Secure the right front splash shield together with the tire and wheel assembly and then the lower closeout panel. Lower the vehicle before removing the engine support fixture then fill the crankcase with engine oil before reconnecting the negative cable.

    Q:
How to replace the oil pan on Chevrolet Uplander? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Oil Pan, first place the engine support fixture (J45907-B). Remove the tire and wheel on the vehicle's right side in front, as well as the right front splash shield. Drain the crankcase by removing the pan plug, then re-install the Drain Plug a turn or two. Leg off of the engine harness clips attaching to the right lower Control Arm, discard the lower Ball Joint castle nut cotter pin, and remove the lower Ball Joint castle nut. Pull apart with the Ball Joint separator (J 41820), the ball stud from the steering knuckle. Then, unfasten the a/c compressor front bolt and nut, rear bolt and set the compressor out of the way. Unbolt the transaxle brace to the engine block/Oil Pan, the transaxle brace to the transaxle, and the transaxle brace. I will disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the oil level sensor, take off the engine harness clip from the Oil Pan, and remove the Engine Mount. Put an adjustable jack stands below the frame, loosen the left side frame bolts and remove the right side frame bolts. Lower the right side of the frame down enough to remove the Oil Pan and take out the Oil Pan side bolt and the Oil Pan bolt before removing the Oil Pan and gasket. Clean the Oil Pan flanges, rail of the Oil Pan, front cover, rear main bearing cap, and threaded holes. Apply sealer on both sides of the crankshaft rear main bearing cap and press it in with a putty knife, into the gaps. Mount in the Oil Pan Gasket and the Oil Pan, and the Oil Pan bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft while mounting the Oil Pan side bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft). Lift the right side of the frame and install and tighten the right side frame bolts , and left side frame bolts while making sure that the front frame bolts are tightened to 130 n.m (96 lb ft) and rear frame bolts are tightened to 240 n.m (177 lb ft). Remove the adjustable jack stands, remount the Engine Mount, and attach the engine harness clip to the Oil Pan. Connect the engine harness electrical connector again to the oil level sensor and install the Starter. Set the transaxle brace to the transaxle and Oil Pan, install transaxle brace to transaxle bolt, and torque transaxle brace to Oil Pan bolts 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Mount the transaxle brace onto transaxle bolts and engine block/Oil Pan bolts as well after tightening them with 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Place the a/c compressor on the front stud, fit the front bolt and nut, then tighten to 50 n.m (37 lb ft), then fit the rear bolt and tighten to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Mount the lower Ball Joint into the steering knuckle, tighten the lower Ball Joint castle nut to 55 n.m (40 lb ft) and align the slots of the castle nut with the Ball Joint stud pin hole if needed fit with a new cotter pin. Last, install the engine harness clips to the front lower right Control Arm, the right front splash shield, and the right front tire and wheel, then uninstall the engine support fixture (J45907-B), and complete the crankcase with new oil.
