Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2006 Chevrolet Uplander?
A: To remove lower Intake Manifold first, disconnect the battery ground negative cable. Remove the upper Intake Manifold, Rocker Arm covers (both side), removes the engine coolant tengperature (ECT) wiring, the Fuel Injector/wiring harness, and the manifold air pressure (MAP) wiring harness. Then pull out Fuel Injector rail, disconnect heater inlet pipe that has heater hose from the lower Intake Manifold and reposition. First remove the water outlet hose, and then remove the Thermostat. Before that disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the engine. Move on to unbolt the lower Intake Manifold bolts, the lower Intake Manifold, take out the valve rocker arms, and the pushrods. After that, remove the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and seals as well as pre-clean the gasket and seal surfaces on the cylinder heads and engine block with degreaser and the lower Intake Manifold, making sure all loose room temperature vulcanizing sealer (RTV) is removed. Install the lower Intake Manifold gaskets, valve rocker arms, and pushrods. Apply a little drop of rtv sealer gm p/n 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) in the four corner sides of the Intake Manifold where there are block joints and install the lower Intake Manifold. For the best performance of a gasket, replace old threads with new one or thread-locking patch and apply thread-locking chemical to old one. Tighten the lower Intake Manifold bolts in sequence to 13nm (115 inch lbs.) on the first, and then to 20nm (15 ft. Lbs.) for bolts (1, 2, 3, 4), 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) for bolts (5, 6, 7, 8) on the final pass. Reinstall the heater inlet pipe and its nut, tightening it to 25 nm (18ft. Lbs.), the Thermostat, as well as water outlet bolts. Install the ect sensor, and tighten it to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.), and hookup the Thermostat bypass hose, radiator inlet hose, and heater inlet pipe using heater hose to the bottom side of the lower Intake Manifold. Replace the Power Steering Pump, fuel injector rail, and join the fuel feed pipe, fuel injector, map wiring harness, and ect wiring harness. Finally, reattach valve Rocker Arm covers, the upper Intake Manifold and on the negative cable of the battery.
