How to replace the tailgate latch on 2006 GMC Sierra 1500?

To change the tailgate latch, lower the endgate and loosen the handle bolts and then raise the endgate. Take out the handle bezel and loosen the linkage rods. Hold the endgate, discard the cables and latch assembly and fit the new latch, making sure it engages correctly and all the parts are fixed.
