    Q:
How to replace the tailgate latch on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the tailgate latch, you have to lower the tailgate and take off the handle bolts, followed by lifting the tailgate. Remove the handle bezel by prying gently on the upper retainer tabs and disengage linkage rods. The side panel cable retainer bolts should have their cables removed from it, as well as the bolt holding the latch assembly. Support then lower the tailgate. Detach the linkage rod from the latch assembly and take out the latch assembly from the tailgate. For installation, link the linkage rod to the latch assembly and install the latch assembly to the vehicle. Mount the latch assembly bolts, pressing until they achieve a torque of 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Connect cables on both sides of the tailgate to the side panel cable retainer bolts, push the linkage rods, and lift the tailgate. Lastly, install the tailgate handle bezel by forcing it into the door until fully located and tightening the handle bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
