How to replace the tailgate latch on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?

Start by putting down the endgate and removing the handle bolts before raising the endgate for replacement. Gently unwedge the upper retainer tabs while removing the handle bezel from the assembly until it disengages the linkage rods. The endgate needs support in its lowered state before technicians remove cable connections from side panel cable retainer bolts and the latch assembly bolt. Move the linkage rod off the latch assembly before taking the latch assembly out from the endgate. Installation starts by joining the linkage rod to the latch assembly then mounting the latch assembly to the vehicle before finishing with tightening the latch assembly bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Attach endgate cables to side panel cable retainer bolts followed by link rod engagement then lift the endgate before installing the endgate handle bezel which requires an initial force to set properly. Screw the handle bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
