How to replace the tailgate latch on 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?

In order to replace the tailgate latch, one should lower the endgate, unscrew the handle bolts and raise it. Take away the handle bezel and loosen the linkage rods. Place the endgate in position, take out the cables and latch assembly, put in the new latch and reassemble everything making sure that nothing gets loose.
