How to replace the tailgate latch on Chevrolet Avalanche 2500?

First lower the endgate and loosen handle bolts before raising the endgate. Pull off the handle bezel by sifting your fingers under the top retainer tabs while breaking the linkage rods loose. Lift the endgate into position while supporting it. Following this you need to uninstall the latch assembly bolts from the side panel cable retainer nuts and the latch assembly mounting bolt. First detach the linkage rod from the latch assembly before removing it from the endgate. Install the latch assembly to the vehicle by attaching the linkage rod to the latch assembly then perform installation according to the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Threads the latch assembly bolts before using a torque wrench to fasten them at 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Connect the cables at the endgate to side panel cable retainer bolts before you activate the linkage rods to raise the endgate and keep the endgate handle bezel tight until it is fully seated. Use 25 N.m (18 lb ft) to snug up the handle bolts.
