Handle

Service and repair of the tailgate handle begins by removing the end gate bezel bolts and plastic tree retainers before taking out the pick up box end gate latch handle bezel. Press down firmly at the bezel's bottom edge to activate the two plastic tree retainers which are located under this point. After opening the end gate and supporting the bezel's top section position the upper bolts by hand before torquing them to 10 N.m (89 lb in.). Finally, close the end gate.

Starting the replacement of a front door interior handle begins with removing the trim panel together with all inside door handle mounting bolts. First you need to slide the inside door handle toward the front side until it frees from the door. Then remove the door handle assembly by disconnecting the control rod from the inside door handle. Before installing you need to connect the control rod to the inside door handle before sliding the handle in position. The Fastener Notice in service precautions must be followed before installing retaining bolts onto the inside door handle which requires a torque of 9 N.m (80 lb in) then finally install the retaining panel.

You must start by taking off the Tailgate Handle bezel before releasing the Tailgate Handle linkage rod retainers. Begin by removing three bolts which hold the handle to the tailgate then remove the tailgate spoiler and finally remove the actual handle. Installation requires placing the handle into the tailgate while making sure to use the proper fastener at its correct installation spot because replacement fasteners require exact part numbers for proper use. Any application of paints or lubricants or corrosion inhibitors to fasteners or joint surfaces should be avoided because they modify torque values and clamping force performance. Secure the handle to the tailgate by locking in position with 3 bolts while torqueing to 25 nm (18 lb ft). You should install the tailgate spoiler first then reconnect the handle linkage rods followed by Tailgate Latch adjustment and installation of the Tailgate Handle bezel.

To fix the Tailgate Handle on the avalanche, start by taking away the Tailgate Handle bezel and removing the Tailgate Handle linkage rod retainers. Next, take off the 3 bolts that fix the handle to the tailgate, take off the tailgate spoiler and the handle. In installation, hold the handle in the tailgate and tighten the 3 bolts into 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Then, install back the tailgate spoiler and quicklink the handle linkage rods and adjust the Tailgate Latch. Immensely, reconnect the Tailgate Handle bezel.

Reinstall the trim panel.

Insert a flat-bladed tool between the door handle bezel and the trim panel to release the handle bezel tab retainers, then remove the door handle bezel from the door panel.
