- Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2007 Buick LaCrosse?A: Before starting the brake caliper replacement check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Drain the excess fluid if the fluid sits above the midway section between maximum and minimum allowed marks. Raise the vehicle and position it on stands. Then take out the front wheel set while keeping the rotor attached with 2 manuallytightened wheel nuts. Place a large c-clamp on top of the brake caliper above its outboard pad while pushing it towards the back until the caliper piston moves into the bore enough to remove the caliper from the rotor. Take away the c-clamp followed by removing the brake hose-to-caliper bolt and discarding the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. Insert a plug into the front brake hose entrance to stop fluid from leaking. Since the leading caliper pin bolt contains a booster the entire bolt has a bushing but the trailing pin bolt remains solid. Take the caliper pin bolts out first when you separate the brake caliper from the caliper bracket bearing the rotor. Check the caliper bolt boots for issues and fix any defective or corroded components of the caliper bolt system. After cleaning the brake caliper pin bolts prepare gm p/n 18047666 lubricant by applying it to both the pin bolts and bushing before fixing the leading caliper pin bolt in place. Place the caliper over the rotor and set it onto the proper position on the bracket , then screw in the caliper pins while verifying that bolt boots nestle into their designated grooves before tightening them to 95 n.m (70 lb ft). The new copper brake hose gaskets must go on top of the brake hose before installing it on the brake hose bolt. Secure the bolt with 54 n.m (40 lb ft) torque. Put the front wheel back on the car after taking away its 2 wheel nuts. Place the tire and wheel assembly on the car. Let the vehicle descend to ground level. Fill the master cylinder with new brake fluid then leak test the brake system.
