- Q: How to replace the upper ball joint on 2007 Buick Rainier?A: The first step is to raise and support the vehicle, after that, take off the tire and wheel. Then, disconnect the Steering Knuckle that has the Wheel Hub still attached and get rid of the upper Ball Joint retaining clip and boot. The lower Ball Joint remover and installer (J 9519-E) should be used to take the upper Ball Joint out of the Steering Knuckle. For installation, set the new upper Ball Joint into the Steering Knuckle making use of the lower Ball Joint remover and installer (J 9519-E), the Control Arm Bushing set (J 21474-01), and the Ball Joint installation spacer (J 45117). When the upper Ball Joint is held in place with the clip, connect the Steering Knuckle to the Wheel Hub, fit the tire and wheel, drop the vehicle, and then review the front wheel alignment.
