    Q:
How to replace the upper ball joint on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before starting work lift the car and put it on stands while removing the tire and wheel. Start by untighting the Steering Knuckle joint that brings together the Wheel Hub and then disconnect both the upper Ball Joint retaining clip and boot. To remove the upper Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle you need to use the lower Ball Joint remover and installer (J9519-E). The proper installation of the new upper Ball Joint into the Steering Knuckle depends on using the lower Ball Joint remover and installer (J9519-E), control arm bushing set (J21474-01), and Ball Joint installation spacer (J45117). Install the Steering Knuckle with Wheel Hub and replace the tire and wheel. Lower the vehicle and test front wheel alignment at the end.

    Q:
How to replace the upper ball joint on a 4WD on GMC Envoy? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start your upper Ball Joint replacement work on a 4wd vehicle by lifting up the vehicle before taking out the wheel and tire unit. Set a proper jack stand below the lower Control Arm then unclip the front brake hose from the upper Control Arm. You should disconnect Wheel Speed Sensor brackets after taking off the Wheel Speed Sensor bracket bolt. Separate the upper Control Arm from the ball stud by taking off and eliminating its retaining nuts and then separate and remove the upper Ball Joint nut. Disconnect the Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle with Ball Joint separator j 6627-a and extract it from the Steering Knuckle. Fit the new Ball Joint onto the Steering Knuckle and secure a new nut using torque of 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). Install the upper Control Arm to the ball stud with the retention nuts then tighten them to 47 nm. Reconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor brackets and place the Wheel Speed Sensor bracket bolt before tightening it to 20 nm torque setting. After linking the brake hose to the Control Arm you can put back the tire wheel set and take off the support from under the Control Arm to complete repairs.
