2007 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and Valve Stem Oil Seal on the left side on 2007 Cadillac DTS?
A: Begin vehicle servicing with left Camshaft removal and then lift the car before proceeding on valve stem oil seal and valve spring replacement on its left side. First detach the connection between the engine Oil Pan and transaxle case before taking off the torque converter cover. Fasten the flywheel holder part j44214 and rock the vehicle down. Before taking out the Spark Plug from your working cylinder use proper methods to keep the Spark Plug recess clean. Insert the valve spring compressor base plate (J 44211) into the Spark Plug hole and add the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313). Press air consistently onto the valve to hold it shutdown. Thread the arm and swivel nut of the valve spring compressor (J 44211) onto the specific stud for the valve to be maintained. Tighten the swivel nut only enough to reach the valve locks and unlock them using a magnetic tool. Turn the swivel nut in the opposite direction and move the arm to take out the valve spring retainer and spring. The valve stem seal remover and installer (J 38820) tool removes the old valve stem seal properly as you inspect the valve spring. Apply engine oil to the valve stem and new seal opening before inserting the separate seal protector then installing the valve stem seal using valve stem seal remover and installer (J 38820). You should put back both the valve spring retainer and valve spring before placing the compressor arm over them. Tighten the swivel nut of the valve spring compressor (J 44211) so the valve locks can be positioned with the on-vehicle valve retainer remover/installer (J 43059). Lower the air pressure from the valve spring compressor (J 44211) unit and disconnect its swivel nut along with arm. Remove the Spark Plug adapter tool (J 39313) from the Spark Plug hole and then pull out the valve spring compressor base plate (J 44211). Follow this procedure with each cylinder you service and place the new Spark Plug in the engine port. After putting back the left camshafts you will need to place the vehicle back in position then take out the flywheel holder (J 44214), attach the torque converter cover and secure the Oil Pan into the transaxle brace using 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque before dropping the vehicle.
