2006 Cadillac DTS Valve Stem Oil Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and Valve Stem Oil Seal on the right side on 2006 Cadillac DTS?
A: To work on valve components on the right side engine block start by removing both right camshafts and hoisting the vehicle at its proper height for repair work. Begin replacement by first taking both parts apart between the engine Oil Pan and the transaxle case before proceeding with the torque converter cover. Lower the vehicle after installing the flywheel holder part j44214. Before unscrewing the Spark Plug you need to cleanse the area where it fits to avoid letting dirt enter. Fit the base plate of the j44211 valve spring compressor onto the Spark Plug hole after withdrawing it from the service cylinder. Use the Spark Plug port adapter (J39313) to enter the Spark Plug hole and maintain continuous air pressure on the valve. Set the on-vehicle valve spring compressor's arm and swivel nut on top of the stud holding the valve to work on. Turn the swivel nut only until you can reach the valve locks. Use a magnet to remove valve locks before loosing and swinging the arm of the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J44211) to take off valve spring retainer and valve spring. You can use the valve stem seal remover and installer (J38820) to hold and change the old valve stem seal. Apply engine oil to the valve stem and insert the new seal onto the stem before fitting it with the valve stem seal remover and installer tool (J38820). After positioning the valve spring retainer and valve spring into place reverse the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J44211) to its tightened position until you can work with the valve locks. The procedure requires using the valve retainer remover/installer (J43059) to insert and remove valve locks from all the valves that require service. Release air pressure while taking off the Spark Plug port adapter (J39313) from the Spark Plug hole and removing the base plate of the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J44211). Reinsert the Spark Plug for each cylinder after you have finished the given procedure. After repositioning the right camshafts you should realign the vehicle on stands, detach the flywheel holder (J44214), position the torque converter cover, and fasten the Oil Pan onto its transaxle bracket with 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs) torque before lowering the vehicle.
