2006 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and Valve Stem Oil Seal on the left side on 2006 Cadillac DTS?
A: To replace the valve stem oil seal and valve spring on the left side, you are required to remove the left camshafts first and lift and support the vehicle. Next, clear the brace between the engine Oil Pan and the transaxle case as well as the torque converter cover. Run the flywheel holder (J44214) and then allow the vehicle to be attached. Before removal of the sparkb plug from the cylinder being served, clean the recess area for the Spark Plug to avoid contamination. Mount the base plate of the valve spring compressor (J44211) over the Spark Plug hole and install the Spark Plug port adapter (J39313) into the hole while constantly pressurizing the air to hold the valve closed. Mount the arm and swivel nut of valve spring compressor (J44211) onto the stud which will be served to the valve to be serviced, tightening the swivel nut at some point allowing the access for removal of valve lock. Disengage the valve locks using a magnet and then unscrew the swivel nut and swing the arm horizontally to free the valve spring retainer and screw the lock. Please hold the valve stem seal at its end with the valve stem seal remover and installer (J38820) and uninstall it twisting and pulling, trash the old seal. Apply clean engine oil to the valve stem and the inside diameter of the new seal, then apply using valve stem seal remover and installer (J38820). Re-install valve spring retainer (Retainer) and valve spring (4994/4500) then swing the arm over the valve spring ret. Then tighten swivel nut of the valve spring compressor (J44211) enough to allow access for valve lock installation. Use the on-vehicle valve retainer remover/installer (J43059), position the valve locks then remove the swivel nut and arm of the valve spring compressor (J44211). Repeat the same procedure for any other valve(s) that you are servicing, relieve the air pressure, and pull off the Spark Plug port adapter (J39313) from the place of the Spark Plug. Unplugged the base plate from valve spring compressor (J44211) and plug the Spark Plug. Finally, reinstall the left camshafts, lift and support, the vehicle once again, remove the flywheel holder (J44214), and install the torque converter cover along with secured the Oil Pan to transaxle brace with a torque of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and lower the vehicle.
