2007 Cadillac Escalade Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake caliper bracket on the 1500 Series on 2007 Cadillac Escalade?
A: Start by checking the fluid measurement in the master cylinder reservoir of the 1500 series before moving onto replacing the rear Brake Caliper Bracket. Remove brake fluid until the level marks the midway point between maximum and minimum when the fluid position is above this point. First secure the vehicle with support then remove the tire and wheel assembly. Mount a large c-clamp on the caliper housing back where the outboard pad resides then tighten it until all pistons are fully compressed. Human hands should only detach guide pin bolts from brake calipers yet heavy mechanic wire should support calipers to protect the flexible brake hose. Disassemble the caliper from the bracket and pads from the caliper bracket but keep track of original pad and spring placement in case you decide to reuse them. Install fresh retaining springs in their place. Complete the process by cleaning all debris from the bracket inside ends and mounting surface. Use gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) threadlocker to treat the bolt threads before you install the new Brake Caliper Bracket by cleaning the bolts with denatured alcohol and tightening them to 165 n.m (122 lb ft). The procedure requires first you to set the brake pads with their correct position together with retaining springs before installing the retaining springs and then attaching the caliper to the bracket. Use an open-end wrench to stabilize the guide pins while torquing the bolts to 38 n.m (28 lb ft) for installation. Safely lift the vehicle and reinstall the tire-wheel assembly. Turn off the engine before applying the Brake Pedal to approximately two-thirds its capacity followed by gradual pedal release. Apply this procedure multiple times during a 15-second interval until you achieve a solid pedal response that properly seats the caliper pistons and pads while also maintaining the proper fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir with clean fluid.
