2007 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the alternator (LC3) on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: Before commencing generator (LC3) replacement start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and removing the generator Drive Belt. Drain the cooling system following the draining and filling cooling system (GE 47716) procedure before you take out the front suspension crossmember. You need to first detach the bolt securing the generator coolant hose assembly and then disconnect the coolant hose from the generator port. The next step requires disconnecting the generator electrical connector while using a boot slider to back away the boot and removing the starter cable nut before separating the starter cable terminal from its stud position. Follow this sequence to uninstall the generator: first remove the generator bolt above and then remove the idler pulley through its bolt and nut before taking off the idler pulley assembly and generator itself. To install the generator place it in position then tighten the upper generator bolt and generator bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Install the idler pulley assembly and bolt. Properly tighten the idler pulley bolt and nut to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Affix the starter cable terminal on the generator while tightening the nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) before covering the generator stud with the boot. Secure the generator coolant hose assembly with the bolt tightened to 27 n.m (20 lb ft). Then follow by attaching the electrical connector to the generator. Follow these steps to complete your service: install the front suspension crossmember, perform the draining and filling cooling system procedure, reconnect the negative Battery Cable before installing the generator Drive Belt.
