2007 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: The replacement process for the engine front cover involves draining the cooling system then removing the air cleaner assembly and accessory drive belts along with the accessory Drive Belt tensioners and idler pulleys and Water Pump Pulley and water outlet housing. Start by disconnecting the radiator and heater hoses from the Thermostat Housing before setting them aside. Then remove the crankshaft balancer and engine front cover bolts and finally take off the front cover. The service engineer should discard the old engine front cover gasket along with removing the oil pump drive to crankshaft balancer friction washer prior to cleaning and inspecting the engine front cover. Installation requires users to place the oil pump drive to crankshaft balancer friction washer first before applying a small amount of sealant to the split line between the upper and lower crankcases and placing the new engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins. Apply a layer of sealant on top of the split line at the engine front cover gasket pad region and then set the engine front cover into position on the crankcase. Apply thread locking compound to the engine front cover bolts before installation then follow the specified sequence to tighten them until they reach 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Ordinance the process by reinstalling the crankshaft balancer followed by the Radiator Hose and heater hose before proceeding to the water outlet housing and Water Pump Pulley and accessory Drive Belt idler pulleys and accessory Drive Belt tensioners and accessory drive belts and finally the air cleaner assembly and cooling system filling.
