2007 Cadillac XLR Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: First wash out the front suspension crossmember and drain the engine oil before removing the engine Oil Filter to complete drain off. You should start by disconnecting the engine oil level sensor electrical connector then remove the automatic transmission fluid cooler line mounting clips before removing the oil level sensor itself. Begin by removing the Oil Pan bolts followed by the Oil Pan and drilling out the Oil Pan Gasket rivets before disposing of the old gasket. Inspection of the Oil Pan must take place before new gasket installation when rivets are omitted on the Oil Pan surface. Place the Oil Pan in the lower crankcase space with front edges positioned 0.50 mm (0.020 in) ahead of the engine block's rear contour. Initial bolt torques for the Oil Pan should be set at 15 n.m (11 lb ft) before tightening them to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Screw in the oil drain plug then place torque at 25 n.m (18 lb ft). After installing the engine oil level sensor into the Oil Pan you should securely fasten it to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) before connecting the electrical connector. The automatic transmission fluid cooler lines should receive their clips back while you place a brand new engine Oil Filter which requires a torque of 30 n.m (22 lb ft). Reinstall the front suspension crossmember before you fill the crankcase with the recommended oil grade while performing an oil leak test under engine operation.
