2007 Cadillac XLR Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: Begin right Timing Chain replacement by taking out the Oil Pump first. The crankshaft socket (J 39946) allows users to rotate the crankshaft so that primary timing gear marks align. The mission is to take away the right Camshaft position actuator housing but leave the actuator solenoids connected. A Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) must be used carefully when positioned on bank 1 (right) camshafts. You must first loosen then remove both right Timing Chain Tensioner bolts together with its accompanying tensioner. To maintain the Camshaft's static position during exhaust and intake Camshaft position oil control valve removal use an open-end wrench. The right exhaust and intake Camshaft position actuator must slide off the Camshaft before removing the Timing Chain from its actuator teeth. Clean all engine components after removing the right Timing Chain before conducting an inspection of the Camshaft timing drive elements. For new Timing Chain installation you should position the three black links facing specific timing marks on bank 1 exhaust actuator and bank 1 intake actuator followed by the intermediate sprocket. Fitting the Timing Chain must be done against the intermediate sprocket with accurate alignment maintained throughout. Align the bank 1 intake and exhaust Camshaft position actuators so their timing marks face perpendicular to the cylinder head deck surface before securing them with oil control valves that reach 120 n.m (89 lb ft). End the installation process by adding the right Timing Chain Tensioner followed by Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) removal and reinstallation of the right Camshaft position actuator housing and installment of the Oil Pump.
