2007 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2007 Cadillac XLR?
A: To replace the left Timing Chain, one should first remove the right Timing Chain. Rotate the crankshaft using the crankshaft socket (J 39946) until the primary timing gear alignment is beside them. Secondly, remove the left Camshaft position actuator housing without removing actuator solenoids. Mount the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) on the bank 2 (left) camshafts. After unbolting the left Timing Chain Tensioner bolt, unbolt the left Timing Chain Tensioner and remove it. Prevent the Camshaft rotation using an open-end wrench during the removal of the bank 2 (left) exhaust Camshaft position oil control valve. Move the left exhaust Camshaft actuator position out of the Camshaft and remove the Timing Chain from the actuator teeth. Repeat the process for the bank 2 (left) intake Camshaft position oil control valve and actuator. Replace the left Timing Chain from the engine and clean and inspect the components of the Camshaft timing drive. While installing the new Timing Chain, align the three black links to the respective timing marks on the above bank 2 exhaust actuator, bank 2 intake actuator, and intermediate sprocket. Join together and join the Timing Chain to the intermediate sprocket, with correct alignment. Mount the intake actuator with its timing mark perpendicular to the cylinder head deck surface, loosely attach the oil control valve, and tighten it to 120 n.m (89 lb ft) with the restriction of the inability to turn the Camshaft. Do the same for the exhaust actuator and oil control valve. Lastly install the left Timing Chain Tensioner, the right Timing Chain, remove the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) and also install the left Camshaft position actuator housing.
