2007 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The replacement process for the crankshaft balancer begins when you apply the serpentine belt tensioner unloader (J 39914) to turn the Drive Belt tensioner before removing the Drive Belt from the right idler pulley. Next release the tensioner tool while carefully taking it off the Drive Belt tensioner. The first step involves supporting the vehicle when elevated then removing the right front wheel along with the wheelhouse liner. Before attaching the crankshaft balancer it is vital to remove the bolt with its washer by following proper installation techniques which avoid component damage. To remove the crankshaft balancer you must use the crankshaft balancer remover (J 41816-A) and its companion tool which is the puller end protector (EN 46359). Application of sealer gm p/n 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148) should be done to the keyway of the crankshaft balancer before placing it over the crankshaft key. You must guide the hex nut on balancer and crank sprocket puller (J 29113) as it installs the balancer onto the crankshaft. Yillar turn the bolt an additional 70 degrees using the angle meter (J 45059) after you install and tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 70 n.m (52 lb ft). Keep the wheelhouse liner and right front wheel installed on the vehicle before lowering it while making sure the Drive Belt maintains proper centering on all pulleys except the right idler pulley. Use the serpentine belt tensioner unloader (J 39914) to turn the Drive Belt tensioner away from the Drive Belt before putting the belt in place at the right idler pulley and methodically release the tensioner to contact the belt before taking out the tool while checking for proper belt alignment.
