2007 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Chevrolet HHR?
A: Securing the Steering Wheel with a strap becomes mandatory before intermediate Steering Shaft replacement because locking the Steering Column helps prevent sir system malfunction. Proceed with removing the left front tire/wheel assembly once the Steering Wheel has an appropriate safety retention system. Begin by removing the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt at the steering gear and disconnecting the intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear. Before installation mark both the intermediate Steering Shaft and the Steering Column shaft to maintain proper alignment. Disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt at the Steering Column while simultaneously separating the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column shaft until the intermediate Steering Shaft seal unseats from its body pass-through position. Take the vehicle's intermediate Steering Shaft together with its seal assembly out. During installation please move the scribed marks to the new intermediate Steering Shaft when adding one. Put the intermediate Steering Shaft along with its sealing assembly through the body pass-through. Inspect the seal's seating position from the engine side to confirm proper installation. First, match the scribed marks between the intermediate Steering Shaft and Steering Column shaft before joining both parts together. Secure a new driving intermediate shaft bolt at the Steering Column using a torque of 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Position the intermediate Steering Shaft toward the steering gear before fastening its new bolt at 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Put back the left front wheel assembly.
