2008 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2008 Buick Lucerne?
A: The engine support fixture serves first when replacing the Oil Pan. Lift the vehicle before removing the air cleaner outlet duct. Begin by removing Catalytic Converter to exhaust manifold nuts before draining engine oil and taking out the Oil Filter. First disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the oil level sensor and then remove the front Engine Mount to frame nut before lowering the vehicle. Next follow the engine support fixture procedure to lift the engine before lifting the vehicle once again. Remove first the bolts securing the front Engine Mount Bracket then remove both the front bracket and mount. The removal process begins with taking out the transaxle brace to Oil Pan bolt followed by transaxle brace to transaxle bolts and then transaxle brace to Oil Pan bolts before actually removing the transaxle brace itself. The front torque converter cover bolt needs removal before taking out the front torque converter cover while the rear torque converter cover bolts must be removed for the rear torque converter cover's removal. To avoid Oil Pan damage you should extract the oil level sensor before starting the removal process. Before installing the Oil Pan replace the bolts and clean all removable debris from the Oil Pan bolts. When installing the part use a continuous bead of rtv sealer to fill the Oil Pan groove and place additional sealer at designated spots. The oil level sensor installation should follow Oil Pan placement, using threadlock on each bolt before securing the Oil Pan against the engine. Torque the Oil Pan bolts to 14 n.m (10 lb ft) while tightening the oil level sensor to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Position the rear torque converter cover and fixed its bolts at 7.5 n.m (66 lb in) torque followed by the front converter cover and its bolt which also requires 7.5 n.m (66 lb in) torque. Start by reinstalling the transaxle brace and its bolts at 50 n.m (37 lb ft) followed by the front Engine Mount Bracket with mount and its bolts tightened to 70 n.m (52 lb ft). After putting the vehicle into an upright position the technician will lower the engine with assistance from the engine support fixture. To finish the front Engine Mount installation, raise the vehicle and apply 80 n.m (59 lb ft) torque to the frame nut. Reconnect the engine harness electrical connector to the oil level sensor. The Catalytic Converter requires reinstallation to the exhaust manifold with 35 n.m (26 lb ft) torque before lowering the vehicle and finally settling in the air cleaner intake duct. After Oil Filter installation you should refuel the engine with new oil.
