2008 Cadillac DTS Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Replace a Brake Booster on 2008 Cadillac DTS?
A: Safety precautions begin with disconnecting the battery negative cable followed by setting the vehicle on level ground with blocked front wheels and activated parking brake. Unplug all three hoses which connect the power steering inlet to the pressure hose and gear to booster assembly. The work begins by removing the master cylinder and wiring harness bracket and spacer from the booster assembly followed by removal of the left closeout insulator panel and left knee bolster and vacuum Brake Booster retainer clip and foam spacer. Additionally you must disconnect the vacuum Brake Booster push rod at its connection to the Brake Pedal clevis pin. The installation begins by taking out the vacuum Brake Booster mounting nuts followed by removing the assembly and its mounting gasket when a replacement is needed. After applying the vacuum Brake Booster mounting gasket to the booster you must install the assembly and fasten it with Brake Pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts which need a torque of 36 n.m (27 lb ft). Install a small amount of gm p/n 12346293 compatible lubricant onto the Brake Pedal clevis pin after which the vacuum Brake Booster pushrod should be connected to the Brake Pedal assembly clevis pin and the foam spacer and retaining clip should be installed. First install the left knee bolster with the left closeout insulator panel before putting on the booster spacer along with the wiring harness bracket. The master cylinder needs readjustment onto the booster assembly while the power steering pressure hose must connect along with the power steering gear to booster hose as well as power steering inlet hose. To finish the procedure disconnect the negative Battery Cable followed by bleeding the hydraulic booster system then recalibrating the brake position sensor and unblocking the front wheels and releasing the parking brake.
