  • Q: How to replace the Parking Brake Cable on the left rear side (J55) on 2008 Cadillac DTS?
    A: The introduction process for replacing the left side parking brake rear cable (J55) begins with vehicle elevation. The intermediate brake cable should be used to decrease pressure by pulling on it downwards. You should lift the rear tab in the connector to remove the intermediate brake cable from the front brake cable. Begin the procedure by first removing the brake cable retaining bolt then lifting the tab to disconnect the brake cable from the equalizer. Together with tool j 37043 the Parking Brake Cable release tool the brake cable is removed from its mounting bracket followed by brake cable extraction from the bracket. Push the inner brake cable to the forward direction until sufficient length is available for actuator removal before using the Parking Brake Cable release tool (J 37043) to free the brake cable from the actuator. Finally remove the brake cable from the mounting bracket. Set the brake cable correctly into the actuator arm before you place it inside the mounting bracket. Place the brake cable correctly on the rear Control Arm before installing the retaining bolt while tightening it to 24 n.m (18 lb ft). Following installation of the brake cable into the mounting bracket you should position the brake cable inside the equalizer before bending the locking tab into its correct position. The installation of intermediate and front brake cables through the connector requires proper seating of locking tabs. No cable adjustment is necessary because the park brake has automatic adjustment capabilities. Finally, lower the vehicle.
