• Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold (LP1, LY7) on 2008 Cadillac STS?

  A: To replace the upper Intake Manifold (LP1, LY7), one has to turn ignition off and remove the fuel injector sight shield. Then, remove the air inlet duct, separate the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose from the Intake Manifold and disconnect the purge solenoid valve electrical and purge line from the valve as well. Disgard the training harness retainer and remove the Throttle Body electrical connector. Next, take off the upper Intake Manifold brace stud, bolt, and brace, and disconnect the positive crankcase evacuation (PCV) hose from right bank camshaft cover and barometric pressure sensor electrical connector and the Intake Manifold runner control solenoid electrical connector. Remove the injector harness bracket bolt and remove the left bank ignition coil wiring harness from the bracket, then remove the upper Intake Manifold bolts, there may be some need of deflection of the cowl panel that might be needed to remove the right rear bolt. Remove the upper Intake Manifold with Throttle Body, and if replacement, dismantle the Intake Manifold and clean / inspect it. For installation, if the Intake Manifold was replaced, install it, a new upper Intake Manifold gaskets, while installing the upper Intake Manifold. Apply tightening to the Intake Manifold bolts in a circular pattern starting at the center (long bolts) and proceeding out to 23 n.m (17 lb ft). Therefore bind the barometric pressure sensor electrical connector, the Intake Manifold runner control solenoid electrical connector, and the pcv hose to the right bank camshaft cover. Mount the upper Intake Manifold brace, stud, and bolt, by applying torque of 65 n.m (48 lb ft) for brace bolt and 10 n.m (89 lb in) for brace stud. Proper engagement of the wiring harness connector, and electrical connector to the Throttle Body, installation of the wiring harness retainer, connecting of the purge line to shear purge solenoid valve and connecting of purge solenoid valve -electrical connector. Finally, attach the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose to the Intake Manifold, put the air inlet duct back, reinstall the fuel injector sight shield.
