2008 Cadillac STS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the windshield wiper arm on 2008 Cadillac STS?
A: Starting by placing wipers in the park position and opening the hood assembly you can replace the Windshield Wiper arm. Set the wipers to the park position before beginning. Driver side wiper must link with an orange line on the center lower windshield blade tip while the passenger side wiper connects to an orange dot positioned on the right lower blade tip. First remove the Wiper Arm covers (2, 5) from the Wiper Arm nuts (3, 6) and then remove the Wiper Arm nuts (3, 6) from the Wiper Arm drive spindle. Push down only when the liftgate/hood assist rod reaches or leaves its position to prevent harming the components. The removal of the driver side Wiper Arm requires users to first detach the upper hood assist rods from assist rod ball studs then tilt the hood toward the air inlet grille panel for supporting the hood assembly. When the Wiper Arm refuses to detach from the Wiper Arm drive spindle you should use the Wiper Arm puller (J 39822) to remove it. Use a fine wire brush to clean drive spindle knurls before separating the Wiper Blade from the Wiper Arm. When installing wiper blades position the passenger side Wiper Arm so the Wiper Blade tip aligns with the orange dot and position the driver side Wiper Arm so the Wiper Blade tip aligns with the orange line. Position the Wiper Arm onto the Wiper Arm drive spindle while securing it with a firm grip before tightening the nut (3, 6) to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Security measures for upper hood assist rods require placing them onto assist rod ball studs, followed by Wiper Arm nut cover installation, correct hood positioning, and operating the wipers for driver side wiper checkups within the wiping area boundaries.
