2008 Cadillac XLR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injector and fuel rail on 2008 Cadillac XLR?
A: The first step to replace the Fuel Injector and Fuel Rail requires you to utilize fuel pressure relief (Without CH 48027) or (With CH 48027) to reduce fuel system pressure. The front section of the supercharger inlet duct assembly needs removal before using compressed air with safety glasses to cleanse both the Fuel Rail and injector ports on the supercharger. Separate electrical connectors of the sciap and baro and map sensors and disconnect vacuum lines from map and sciap sensors, respectively. Settling the bracket with sensors for sciap, baro and map while making sure that coolant stays away from the supercharger drive belt leads to the placement of a shop rag near the supercharger front for remaining coolant capture. Drain a portion of the charge air cooling system before removing and discarding the front section of the charge air cooler front manifold assembly without disconnecting the hoses from the manifold pipes. Separate the electrical wires of the air inlet temperature 2 sensor and supercharger bypass solenoid valve along with the vacuum line from the supercharger actuator valve. Begin maintenance by displacing the fuel line fitting at the Fuel Rail then proceed to separate Fuel Injector electrical connectors (1, 4, 6, 8) from both sides of the power unit. The installation requires disconnection of the right rear injector rail bolt ground wire and the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector assemblies (1, 2) present on each side of the Fuel Rail brackets. Separate the clip holding the Fuel Rail to the front of the supercharger before extracting the Fuel Rail attaching studs and relocating the rear inlet duct according to need then extracting the supercharger Fuel Rail assembly. Remove the lower o-ring seals from each Fuel Injector and eliminate the retainers along with the fuel injectors from the Fuel Rail keeping the seals for disposal. During assembly apply engine oil on new o-ring seals of Fuel Injector units if you remove them before installation. Position these seals onto the injectors and fasten them with new retainers which should be oriented perpendicular to the crankshaft centerline. Lubricate all new o-ring seals that should be mounted on each injector spray tip end. Afterwards, position both the fuel injectors and Fuel Rail properly against the supercharger assembly before gently pushing down the complete Fuel Rail assembly until it achieves full seating. The supercharger requires installation of Fuel Rail attaching studs and their subsequent tightness to 10 n.m (89 lb in) before Fuel Rail attachment to the front clip. The installation process must include fitting the ground wire on the right rear injector rail bolt followed by reattaching both sides of Fuel Rail brackets through Oxygen Sensor electrical connector assemblies (1, 2). Position the Fuel Injector electrical connectors (1, 4, 6, 8) to both sides of the engine. Reestablish connection between the engine compartment fuel line fitting to the Fuel Rail while also connecting the superchargers actuator valve vacuum line and the bypass solenoid valve electrical connector. Install and seal the front part of the charge air cooler front manifold assembly while attaching its air inlet temperature 2 sensor electrical connector. The procedure requires installing the sciap sensor along with its bracket and connecting the vacuum lines to map and sciap while reconnecting electrical connectors to the sensors. To conclude the installation you must fully install the supercharger inlet duct assembly front section while filling the charge air cooling system with coolant and conducting a fuel system leak check before putting in the engine sight shield.
