2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power vacuum brake booster on 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Disable the car battery before starting your Brake Booster replacement work. Press the brake pedal several times to empty the Brake Booster gas reserve before stopping. First disconnect the vacuum power brake vacuum sensor connection if available and take off the vacuum power Brake Booster check valve assembly along with the hose from the Brake Booster grommet. Move only the electrical components before you take off the underhood electrical support brace. Disconnect the brake level sensor electrical connector before removing the master cylinder nuts and uncoupling the clutch hose quick connect fitting from the master cylinder. Plug both ends to avoid brake fluid loss. To prepare the master cylinder for service disconnect the brake fittings first then take it out and hang it on heavy mechanics wire. Disconnect the two bolts from the brake pedal Pushrod and Pushrod washer before taking the Pushrod off the pivot pin. Detach the vacuum booster nuts and booster from the assembly with gasket since the gasket should be replaced when damaged. Mount the new gasket and power brake vacuum booster into place using nuts which should be tightened to 17 n.m (14 lb ft). Put a layer of high temperature grease gm p/n 12345996 on the Pushrod pin of the brake pedal and fit the rod into its pivot point. Add washer and nut and tighten them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Put back the steering column filler piece while checking the master cylinder seal for damage and proper seating. Mount the master cylinder next to the power vacuum Brake Booster and seal the clutch hose joint when available. Secure the master cylinder nuts using 25 n.m torque (18 lb ft). Secure the vacuum power Brake Booster check valve and hose assembly to its Brake Booster grommet with a small amount of denatured alcohol if required for the process. Join both electrical connectors of the vacuum sensor (if equipped) and brake fluid level indicator switch. Put the electrical parts and control modules on the underhood bracket before attaching the bracket and putting back the negative cable.
