2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Steering wheel maintenance begins with securing it with a strap to stop rotation then locking the Steering Column to shield the sir system from damage. Secure the Steering Wheel using proper attachment then detach the left front wheel assembly. To start the intermediate Steering Shaft replacement, remove the bolt at the steering gear then toss it while disconnecting the Steering Shaft from the gear with proper marks made at both the shaft and column for alignment purposes. Use a socket to remove the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt from the Steering Column then throw it away before moving the intermediate Steering Shaft away from the Steering Column shaft. Extract the intermediate Steering Shaft seal through the body pass-through before you take away the intermediate Steering Shaft assembly and its seal from the vehicle. New intermediate Steering Shaft installation requires transferring the scribed marks ahead of body pass-through assembly by ensuring the seal remains properly seated from the engine compartment. Position the scribed marks on the intermediate Steering Shaft to match the scribed marks on the Steering Column shaft before joining these components together. The installation of new bolts should begin with the one attaching the intermediate Steering Shaft to the Steering Column where torque must reach 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Following this step, insert the intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering gear while using another new bolt at the gear and torque it to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Reinstall the left front tire/wheel assembly as the last step.
