2009 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: You should secure the Steering Wheel using a strap then lock the Steering Column to protect the sir system from damage. Start the directional procedure by fastening the Steering Wheel with a protective strap and after that remove the left front tire and wheel assembly. Begin by disengaging the intermediate Steering Shaft from its connection point at the steering gear through removal of its bolt while maintaining a scribe mark record for both parts. Separate the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt which connects the Steering Column to remove the intermediate Steering Shaft from the Steering Column shaft. Before extraction unfold the intermediate Steering Shaft seal from its body pass-through position. Then remove both the assembly and the Steering Shaft from the vehicle. Clean the intermediate Steering Shaft bolt threads using denatured alcohol while applying the recommended general motors threadlocker or blue medium loctite(TM) 242 to upper and lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolts. When replacing an intermediate Steering Shaft with a new part use the scribed marks from the previous component installation. Mount the intermediate Steering Shaft and seal assembly into the vehicle space while making sure the intermediate Steering Shaft seal has complete contact. Fit the scribed marks on the intermediate Steering Shaft with those on the Steering Column shaft before linking the components together. Install a new intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and tighten it to 34 nm (25 lb ft). Complete the connection between the intermediate Steering Shaft and steering gear, follow up with installation of another new intermediate Steering Shaft bolt that requires 34 nm (25 lb ft) torque. The final step involves reinstalling the left front tire and wheel assembly.
