2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the intermediate steering shaft on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Begin intermediate Steering Shaft replacement by supporting the vehicle then removing the left front tire. Begin the replacement process by removing the intermediate shaft to steering gear pinch bolt which you must then discard before disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. You must extend the vehicle then adjust the wheel to face forward straight ahead position alongside Steering Column lock to stop sir system damage. Extract the ignition key while using your hand to turn the wheel clockwise until it achieves a locking position. Before disassembly, create alignment marks on the intermediate shaft's Steering Column connection and then take out and discard the intermediate shaft pinch bolt at the Steering Column. The intermediate shaft slides off the Steering Column shaft for unseating the dash-mounted intermediate shaft seal using pulling while squeezing and twisting the seal before removing it from the vehicle. When using a new intermediate shaft, mark the lines followed by installing the shaft through the dash opening with seat verification from the engine side. Use a combination of forceful pushing while squeezing and rotating motion to properly seat the intermediate shaft seal until complete installation is achieved. Afterward, align the initial marks on intermediate shaft and Steering Column shaft before connecting both components together. Torque the shaft's pinch bolt to 34 n.m (25 lb ft) when it connects the Steering Column to the new intermediate shaft. Next, connect the shaft to the steering gear and tighten the new pinch bolt to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Complete the installation of the left front wheel as the last step.
