2007 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Front Rack and Pinion Steering Gear on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Before commencing power steering Rack And Pinion replacement start by turning your Steering Wheel to face forward and pulling out your key from the ignition before using a strap to secure the wheel in place. First elevate the vehicle while supporting it and then take out the front wheels. After separating the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion you must avoid any rotation because potential damage can result. Begin by taking off the Rack And Pinion to intermediate shaft pinch bolt and disposing of the bolt before disconnecting the intermediate shaft from the Rack And Pinion. Discard the nuts which secure each outer tie rod to knuckle and ensure you avoid using compound-type wedges for separation. Use a j24319-b steering linkage and tie rod puller to disconnect the exterior tie rods from steering knuckles before removing the Rack And Pinion bolts and back transmission mount. Work through the left-hand wheel opening to carefully pull out the Rack And Pinion from both the vehicle and the frame. Install the Rack And Pinion through the left-hand wheel opening of the frame by tightening all Rack And Pinion bolts to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). After installing the new rear transmission mount, connect the intermediate shaft to the Rack And Pinion. Use a new intermediate shaft pinch bolt and torque it to 34 n.m (25 lb ft). Screw the outer tie rods into the steering knuckles then apply new outer tie rod nuts until they reach 25 n.m (18 lb ft) with an additional 90-degree torque. Reattach the front wheels followed by lowering the vehicle while removing the Steering Wheel strap and make toe adjustments when needed.
