2008 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2008 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The first step before changing the Oil Pan is to disconnect the battery negative cable. Next, fix the engine support fixture (J45716-B) and lift the vehicle. Unbolt the air conditioning (A/C) compressor, the engine-to-transaxle brace bolts (1, 2) and the engine-to-transaxles brace . Then, remove the Starter. In the case of cars with all-wheel drive (AWD), remove the Transfer Case. Take out the intermediate shaft if it has front-wheel drive (FWD). Drain the engine oil and pull out the Oil Filter. Once more, go ahead and take off the Oil Pan side bolts as well as the Oil Pan sealing surface bolts before removing the Oil Pan. Clean the Oil Pan and the surface of the engine block gasket. Apply sealer on the back side of crankshaft rear main bearing cap and where the engine front cover mates with the engine block, pushing the sealer into the groove with a putty knife. Replace the Oil Pan Gasket and Oil Pan, securing the Oil Pan flange bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Install the Oil Pan side bolts with the use of torque wrench adapter (J39505 to 50 N.m (37 lb ft). Replace the Oil Filter with a new one, with the intermediate shaft for those with fwd, or the Transfer Case for those with awd. Install the Starter and the engine-to-transaxle brace and bolts (1, 2) used originally, with a torque of 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Unscrew the center on the A/C Compressor, lift the vehicle, withdraw the engine support fixture, and connect the negative Battery Cable. Finally, add new engine oil into the engine.
