2009 Chevrolet Equinox Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The starting point for Oil Pan replacement begins with disconnecting the battery negative cable. Fasten the engine support fixture while you position the vehicle into a raised position. Start by removing three components: the air conditioning compressor and bolts from both the engine-to-transaxle brace and engine-to-transaxle brace. Next, remove the Starter. Owners of vehicles with all-wheel-drive (AWD) must first take off their Transfer Case but front-wheel-drive (FWD) vehicles can skip this step. The intermediate shaft must come off during a front wheel drive (FWD) installation. Pull out the engine oil then remove the Oil Filter from its position. First lower the vehicle to remove engine mount retaining nuts followed by engine support fixture elevation to lift the engine 2 inches. Before removing the Oil Pan wipe down both the Oil Pan surface and the engine block gasket area. Next, remove the bolts along the pan's sides and sealing surface bolts before taking off the Oil Pan. Narrow down the application of sealer to encompass the crankshaft rear main bearing cap on both sides and to the joint between engine front cover and engine block. Install the Oil Pan Gasket and position the Oil Pan afterward. Apply torque of 25 nm (18 lb ft) to the Oil Pan flange bolt set while using j 39505. After that, torque the Oil Pan side bolts to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Install a new Oil Filter. The intermediate shaft installation follows when your vehicle has fwd. Before continuing with awd installation you must install the Transfer Case. Screw Starter and engine-to-transaxle brace back into place using 50 nm (37 lb ft) torque force. Place the new A/C Compressor then follow steps to lower the vehicle below the engine using the engine support fixture. First tighten the engine mount retaining nuts then take off the engine support fixture and reattach the negative Battery Cable before pumping new engine oil into the motor.
