• Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?

  A: Before installing the engine front cover start by disconnecting the Battery Cable terminal then unmount the air cleaner followed by the engine support fixture installation. The first step requires driving belt removal and draining all fluid from the cooling system. The procedure starts by lifting and supporting the vehicle while also removing the crankshaft balancer and lower belt idler pulley and engine Oil Pan. Once the vehicle reaches the appropriate position you must remove the left belt idler pulley and right Engine Mount Bracket bolts and right Engine Mount Bracket. Afterward remove the Water Pump together with the thermostat bypass hose adapter and radiator outlet hose from the engine front cover. Strip out all bolts from the engine front cover until you can remove it with all its accompanying engine front cover gasket material from the sealing surfaces. Thoroughly clean those surfaces. The installation process begins with engine front cover gasket sealer application to its lower tabs before gasket placement onto the engine block followed by proper cover alignment before final installation. After torque tightening the engine front cover bolts to their specified values install the radiator outlet hose and thermostat bypass hose adapter as well as the Water Pump. Install the right Engine Mount Bracket then attach its bolts before loading Engine Mount Bracket bolts into place. Put the left belt idler pulley in place followed by vehicle support then reinstallation of the engine Oil Pan and lower belt idler pulley. Lower the vehicle when you install the crankshaft balancer and Drive Belt.
