2008 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on the Camshaft Position Intake Actuator on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: A worker should start the Camshaft position intake actuator replacement by taking off the Camshaft cover. The next step should involve removal of the upper Timing Chain Guide bolts as well as the guide itself. A 24 mm wrench should be used to stabilize the Camshaft until you loosen the bolt on the intake Camshaft actuator but stop before removal. The en 46327 Timing Chain tensioner tool must embed its tips completely into the Timing Chain. Insert one of the locking tools included in the en 46327 product on the exhaust Camshaft side of the Timing Chain assembly to secure the Timing Chain and apply tight nut torques. Use one of the tools to mark the position of both the Timing Chain and Camshaft position actuators before disassembling them. Note down the positions of intake and exhaust Camshaft actuators alongside their associated areas on the Timing Chain. Use the 24 mm wrench to maintain Camshaft stability during the removal of the intake Camshaft actuator bolt before removing the intake Camshaft actuator from Camshaft and Timing Chain. Before fitting the exhaust Camshaft actuator it should be aligned with the Timing Chain mark. Prepare the Timing Chain to sit on the intake Camshaft actuator by making sure both elements match their marks before mounting the Camshaft. The tool should stay in place during new intake Camshaft actuator bolt installation until it reaches proper tightness and then proceed to remove the tool from both intake and exhaust Camshaft Timing Chain assembly positions. The 24 mm wrench will temporarily hold the Camshaft as you tighten the new Camshaft actuator bolt to 85 n.m (63 lb ft) torque and continue turning it an extra 30 degrees using j 45059 angle meter. Reinstall the upper Timing Chain Guide and bolts while securing them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). The process ends with replacement of the Camshaft cover.
