2008 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The initial step to replace the Fuel Rail assembly is to record the 8-digit identification number found on the Fuel Rail because this information will help with repair and replacement tasks. The correct position of Fuel Injector o-rings is essential to avoid fuel leak-related fires because black o-rings should be installed at the upper section while brown o-rings should be placed at the lower section. Seal the fittings and place plugging materials over the holes to block fuel system entry of debris. Remove the fuel feed pipe from the Fuel Rail as well as disconnect all remaining electrical connectors and extract the upper Intake Manifold. The procedures continue with removal of the Fuel Injector harness connector bracket bolt from the Intake Manifold followed by disconnecting the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector and the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector. Take off the Fuel Rail bolts first while positioning the Fuel Rail aside for later access. Then extract the o-ring from the injector tip where fuel exits before discarding all used o-rings. Caution must be exercised to prevent damage when taking out the fuel injectors because both electrical connector pins and nozzles are at risk and all injectors must remain free of any cleaning substances during removal. The installation process requires extraction of the Fuel Injector retaining clip together with the Fuel Injector from the Fuel Rail and the upper o-ring. Check the part number before buying replacement fuel injectors because each unit contains a visible part number designation. Clean engine oil should be used for lubricating the new injector o-rings before placing the upper o-ring and Fuel Injector onto the Fuel Rail with the retaining clip as needed for installation. Service the fuel system components with caution because contaminant leaks can occur through Fuel Rail ports which must be properly plugged and compressed air and solvent baths should be avoided for maintenance. The replacement process starts by fixing all damaged lower injector o-rings then applying clean engine oil to them. Install the Fuel Rail assembly within the Intake Manifold after a slight tilt for proper injector placement. Affix the Fuel Rail bolts using 10 n.m torque value while reattaching both cmp and ect sensor electrical connectors. Secure the Fuel Injector harness connector bracket to the Intake Manifold while installing a bracket bolt that should be tightened to 8 n.m (71 lb in). Install the upper Intake Manifold while also re-establishing remaining electrical connections then attach the fuel feed pipe onto the Fuel Rail. The technician needs to inspect for fuel leaks while the ignition stays on for 2 seconds, then switches off for 10 seconds before coming back on again to check for any fuel leakage during this procedure.
