2008 Chevrolet Impala Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2008 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The crucial equipment required for crankshaft balancer replacement includes en 46359 puller end protector (EN 46359), j 29113 balancer and crank sprocket installer (J 29113), j 37096 Flywheel holder (J 37096), and j 41816 Harmonic Balancer remover (J 41816) along with j 45059 angle meter (J 45059). Begin the process by removing the Drive Belt then raise the vehicle before standing it up and uninstalling the right front tire together with the wheel. For the replacement of the crankshaft balancer proceed by detaching the right engine splash shield before securing adjustable jack stands beneath the frame. The technician should start by loosening the frame bolts on the left side and taking off the right side frame bolts before lowering the right frame to reach the crankshaft balancer. The j 37096 device must be positioned against the Flywheel to stop torque converter rotation. Use care to remove the crankshaft balancer bolt while taking out its washer as power tools should be avoided. You must use the j 41816 with en 46359 to separate the crankshaft balancer. The installation includes placing sealer on the crankshaft balancer keyway before fitting the component over the key and inserting the j 29113 into the crankshaft. Start by rotating the hex nut found on the j 29113 to properly install the balancer and then remove the j 29113. Install the crankshaft balancer washer followed by its bolt while applying torque of 125 n.m (92 lb ft) to the used bolt until replacement with a new bolt. Before applying torque to the new bolt the technician uses the j 45059 to achieve 125 n.m (92 lb ft) torques and then 130 degrees. The technician first removes j 37096 from the Flywheel before reinstalling the torque converter covers. The frame returns to its original position while the technician tightens all frame bolts to 100 n.m with an extra 90 degrees rotation using j 45059. The last steps include reinstalling the right engine splash shield followed by the right front tire and wheel and then lowering the vehicle before placing the Drive Belt.
