2007 Chevrolet Impala Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2007 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Starting the crankshaft balancer replacement requires multiple tools which include the en 46359 puller end protector (EN 46359), j 29113 balancer and crank sprocket installer (J 29113), j 37096 Flywheel holder (J 37096), j 41816 Harmonic Balancer remover (J 41816), and j 45059 angle meter (J 45059). Start by taking off the Drive Belt before lifting and supporting the vehicle while removing right front tire together with wheel and right engine splash shield. Before commencing replace the adjustable jack stands under the frame and next loosen the left frame bolts before removing right frame bolts to drop the frame right side for crankshaft balancer access. J 37096 should be installed onto the Flywheel to stop its rotation after you remove torque converter covers. Install the j 37096 on the Flywheel to prevent rotation before removing the crankshaft balancer bolt and washer while avoiding power tool assistance. The j 41816 along with the en 46359 tools are used to eliminate the crankshaft balancer. Use sealer on the keyway area of the crankshaft balancer before positioning it over the key and securing it with the j 29113 into the crankshaft. Proceed to install the balancer by rotating the hex nut on the j 29113 but keep the j 29113 in place. Fasten the crankshaft balancer washer with its bolt by applying 160 n.m (118 lb ft) torque. To finish the repair replace the torque converter covers and put the j 37096 back into the Flywheel before lifting the frame to its proper height then tightening both frame bolts to 100 n.m (74 lb ft) with an additional 90-degree twist by using the j 45059. After completing the previous steps you should reinstall the right engine splash shield and the right front tire and wheel followed by lowering the vehicle, then installing the Drive Belt.
