2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer Rocker Shaft Spring Kit Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Valve Stem Oil Seal and Valve Spring Using a Rocker Shaft Spring Kit on 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: You should start by disconnecting the valve Rocker Arm before replacing the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring parts. Twist the Spark Plug wire boot by half a turn then grab only the boot part to take it off the Spark Plug. Pull out all spark plugs before starting work at normal room temperature. Turn the Spark Plug 1-2 times and clean the area with compressed air before removing it. Use j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter to insert in the Spark Plug hole and connect an Air Hose to it. Compressed air through j 22794 holds the valve positions while in place. Compress the valve spring by means of j 38606 before taking off valve stem keys and gently easing valve tension. Take off j 38606 valve spring compressor along with the valve spring cap and valve spring. Also remove the Valve Stem Oil Seal/shim assembly (1, 5). Apply new oil to the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal before moving on to the valve spring set-up. First put in both parts of the Valve Stem Oil Seal/shim (numbers 1 and 5) then set the valve spring and finish with the valve spring cap. Depress the valve spring using j 38606 tool then apply grease into the valve keys to secure them before placing them into the valve stem groove. Let the valve spring pressure out after ensuring the valve keys stay set properly and take out j 38606. Use a plastic faced hammer to gently tap the valve stem end when needed to properly seat the keys. Put j 22794 back into the Spark Plug port then start the plug by hand and tighten it to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Push each Spark Plug wire boot lightly sideways to verify its secure position before connecting both ends to the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug. Complete the process by installing the valve Rocker Arm.
