  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on 2008 GMC Envoy?
    A: In order to remove and replace the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable, try to deactivate the sir system. Tilt the Steering Column all the way to the center position and pull the Steering Wheel off the column, followed by the upper and lower trim pieces. Check the Steering Column for accident damage if needed. In case when the Steering Wheel has pad control, the driver's Steering Wheel module coil and wire harness assembly must be removed as a unit; otherwise, the coil can be excised separately. Next, pull out the wire harness strap and if necessary, the wire harness assembly as well. Remove the retaining ring using the snap ring pliers and then pull out the Steering Wheel module coil. If necessary, install the wave washer. For installation, if necessary and is the 1/4 turn that works to the installer and align the block tooth on the Steering Shaft assembly to the 12 o'clock position. A new inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil is pre-centered, this means that do not remove the centering tab until installation is done. In case of reusing the already existing coil, then ensure it is properly nestled first. Mount the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil with the tower horn through the shaft lock or cam orientation plate and push it onto the Steering Shaft assembly. Carefully take out and discard the centering tab from the coil, making sure that the retaining ring fits tightly into the groove of the race and upper shaft assembly to install it, using snap ring pliers before. Install the wire harness assembly and then the wire harness strap, and upper trim covers, if the Steering Wheel has a pad control. Finally, install the Steering Wheel back to the column and enable sir system.
